Waihi East is a decile 3 co-ed contributing school catering for children in the 5 to 11 year age range (Yr 1 - Yr 6) and at the end of Year 6 pupils transfer to Waihi College (Yr 7 – Yr 13).
The majority of New Entrant children who enroll have had early childhood learning experience and the close proximity of Waihi Kindergarten is used to the advantage of both institutions. The school roll is currently 125 pupils, our Principal is Emily Hargreaves, we have 6 classroom teachers, 2 classroom based teacher aides, a resource teacher of learning and behaviour (RTLB) based at East School, 2 office administrators (not full time), a caretaker and dental therapists who work in the school.

Waihi College has been hosting international students for many years and in that time we have learnt that the greatest contribution international students make to our community is to help us understand that being different is what makes each and every one of us the same. When we recognize this, we become more tolerant of others, we accept others and we learn to be proud of ourselves. At the moment we have students from Japan, Norway, Netherlands, Thailand, Finland, Germany and Denmark and we welcome the variety and diversity that they bring.
