This Division of the Cancer Society was established in 1965 and geographically covers from the East to West Coasts and from the most northern points of Te Araroa and Taranaki to Otaki in the south. Within the Division are five centres Gisborne-East Coast Hawke's Bay Manawatu Taranaki Wanganui–Rangitiki-Waimarino with a combined population base of over ½ million people. The Regional Cancer Treatment Service is based at Palmerston North Hospital (Midcentral District Health Board). Special accommodation for cancer patients receiving treatment and their families is provided at Ozanam House in Palmerston North through a joint trust run by the Society’s Manawatu Centre and St Vincent de Paul Society. Most Cancer Society services in this region, although coordinated by the Division are provided and organised from the five centres including: • Support services and cancer information • Prevention & early detection of cancer including tobacco control, skin cancer avoidance, cancer control through nutrition and physical activities • Advocacy for high standard cancer services and patient access in the region Cancer Research – funding support for the Society’s national research Programme. In addition the Central Districts Research Trust Fund was established in 2000 to increase donations for cancer research. All funds donated go to research and any administration costs of the trust are covered by the division. We offer a friendly and confidential women's health information service based in Palmerston North. We provide women's health resources, referral assistance and advocacy. We are open for drop in on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. Cervical screening, counselling and natural health practitioners are available on request and by appointment. We provide free or by donation: - Urine pregnancy tests - Condoms and lube - Cervical smear tests (limited access). - Files on local doctors, specialists, midwives, dentists, counsellors and alternative therapy - A women's health lending library - An eating disorders support - Speakers on women's health We provide natural health practitioner services at a reduced cost including: - Counselling - Massage and mirimiri - Naturopathy - Homeopathy - Osteopathy - Reflexology - Hypnotherapy We can give information about the following: - The way a women's body works - Your rights when using health services - Natural and self-help remedies - Pregnancy and childbirth - Abortion - Contraception - Lesbian health - Problems with periods and PMS - Menopause - Sexual health - Eating disorders - Mental and emotional health - Women's surgery - Nutrition and healthy lifestyle and lots more ... We can also put you in touch with groups and services for: - Infertility - Endometriosis - Miscarriage - Sexual health - Lesbians and women questioning their sexuality - Rape and sexual abuse We welcome women dropping in for a chat, a cup of tea or a look around.

The Palmerston North Film Society provides an alternative mainstream films screening movies from around the world, both old and new. Every Wednesday at Downtown Cinemas 5.30 and 8pm starting March 7th. Waged $85, unwaged $70, triple feature card $30 (upgradable to full membership), high school $30.

Welcome to Te Manawa! Te Manawa is a regional cultural centre where art, heritage and science themes dominate. Our exhibitions explore the past, seek to inform today and pose questions about tomorrow. We host international touring shows and home grown exhibits. Opening hours: We are open everyday from 10am - 5pm. Closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.

We are all about getting everyone active everyday. How? We develop the capability of local coaches and clubs, encourage sport in schools, promote active transport, run community events, attract significant sports events to the area and much more. We have been active as a charitable trust since 1987 serving the Manawatu, Tararua and Horowhenua.
