Not far from the Heart of Central Newtown , Wellington sits the regions newest sporting venue. Capable of seating 15+ people comfortably with possible expansions for the Rugby World Cup 2011 Knock out matches, Stade de Newtown is a multi purpose venue that will leave you in awe of how something so magnificent could be constructed in a flat lounge for just $35 (trailor hire fee). The stadium doubles as a movie theater with a massive 100inch projection screen and has been quoted as "The Best Place I have ever watched rugby" by the infamous Scott "The Squid" Paterson. The stadium went through a trial run on the 6th August 2011 with the All Blacks demolision of the Walabies at Eden park in Auckland and was then subsequently signed off by the team of official building consultants. Constructed in one busy afternoon by Chris Armstrong, Michael "The Mantis" White, Scott "The Squid" Paterson & Elliot Brown after weeks and weeks of planning. Westpac Stadium hosts a diverse range of sporting and entertainment events. Since opening in 2000 the Stadium has hosted rugby union, rugby sevens, rugby league, football, cricket, and australian rules matches; as well as major concerts, extreme motor cross, and wrestling events. It is the home ground for the Hurricanes and Wellington Lions Rugby teams, and the Wellington Phoenix Football team. Westpac Stadium also hosts exhibitions, and functions of all sizes.
