We are a family owned business that was opened by Phil & his wife Elaine back in 1970 in the old Newmans bus depot which is now the Dentist in Waverley Street. Andrew worked at the shop after school and has been working here ever since that's over 30 years ago. Phil moved the business a few times even being in the main street for a time until he moved to the present site in Ruataniwha Street which was where the Waipawa Mail newspaper was printed now known as The CHB Mail. We are a Bike and Outdoor power shop providing sales & service to the community & wider community for over 40 years. Phil has been providing service to the cycling community for all of this time & was heavily involved in the early days with the local BMX clubs & was heavily involved with the local road cycling community from it's inception as BATS now known as CHB Cycling, he would still like to be cycling with the club but at 74 years old he prefers to go out at his own pace & enjoy his bike & the countryside, but he is still actively involved in the shop & comes in Mon-Fri 12-1pm to repair bikes & offer advice to budding cyclists & old hands. In cycling circles he is known as the Bike Legend & people are still ringing up asking for Phil the Bike Legend/Guru to fix their bikes. Andrew is the lawnmower & small engine mechanic also known as The Lawnmower Legend who has been told several times that he should be cloned as what he doesn't know about mowers & small engines isn't worth knowing. Many people flock in to peruse & buy his amazing array of second hand parts it's almost like a museum as Andrew is reluctant to throw anything away, people come from far & wide to see what he has hidden away in his cave & usually leave with a smile on their faces almost as if they have won the lotto. What is unknown by most people is that Andrew is also an absolute whizz at cycle repairs some say he is even better at this job than Phil, he has been repairing bikes for well over 30 years & apart from what he does at the shop he also has contracts outside the shop for assembling & repairing bikes. So never fear if Phil is away as Andrew is an ace bike mechanic & you will be in great hands. The other member of the Bike n Mow team is Shiree, she has also been involved in the business for many years & what she doesn't know about finding your parts & keeping everyone up to the minute with info & the latest happenings & products in the world of cycling or outdoor power isn't worth knowing either. She is also our publicity officer & it almost seems like a fulltime job to promote our business & keep people informed of all the events, results & happenings in the area & NZ through Facebook & soon on our own website.
