Cool Change Bar & Eatery

Cool Change Bar & Eatery

8 Memorial Square, Martinborough, Masterton ,
Why Cool Change? Cool change came to fruition for a number of reasons. Having frequented this stunning region for some years to escape the hustle & bustle of the city life at every opportunity, we saw a window to taste the Wairarapa life as residents & business owners. Hence why we thought it would be a Cool Change. We stumbled across the chance to convert one of the most ornate, beautiful buildings in the Wairarapa into a warm, comfortable, unique hospitality concept. The name derives from one of our greatest passions – music. Throw in the fact that we are vulnerable to the odd occasional southerly blast & fondness of “The Little River Band” Cool Change was born. We have focused on taking the décor back to the era with which this stunning building thrived, with the help & guidance of ‘Wedgey’ & ‘Grunter’ our makeover was completed on Sept 16th 2011. Our facility consists of 2 private function rooms, one room seats 12 people and the other seating up to 40pax. Our dining room features booth seating, open fire, period & deco lighting and retro wallpaper. The bar greets you on entry with a warm ambiance; sky TV when required & a wine list to tempt those taste buds. Cool Change cuisine will not disappoint as our Head Chef Jurgens Snyman has weaved his way around the globe cooking alongside some of the worlds ‘foodie’ rockstars – We’ve never witnessed a guy make a piece of toasted bread so moreish… What you need to know... $5 Bubbles - all day, everyday, all the damn time... Paper Road Vineyard/ Restaurant and Bar

Paper Road Vineyard/ Restaurant and Bar

7 Wingate Road, Masterton ,
The stony soil north of Masterton is ideal for growing grapes and the Opaki location is also a great place for our funky new cafe. During our relatively short existence Paper Road Winery has established itself as a producer of fine grapes with a great cellar door for wine lovers .Now we have expanded the winery into a fully fledged cafe and restaurant with our own authentic wood-fired pizza oven. Our distinctive Paper Road surveyor silhouette logo is a familiar sight to State Highway 2 travellers and we are hoping to tap into that market. Around 4000 vehicles pass by everyday and some of those motorists would love to try out some top quality Wairarapa hospitality. We have Mojo coffee on offer as well as delicious home cooked muffins and slices. As a functioning winery, we are happy to show people around the operation which is located on the premises. A hint of history Not many people are aware of Masterton’s trail-blazing history of wine-making in Wairarapa. The Beetham family had a large winery just north of town which flourished until prohibition in 1908. Paper Road has embraced this viticultural link to the area with large prints of historic photos on the walls of the new restaurant. Another historic link for the vineyard is that it is located right next to the former Wingate Train Station. Occasional steam trains stop at the vineyard on their way to and from Masterton from their base in Paekakariki. Mother’s Day in May is the next scheduled steam train visit to the Wingate stop. As part of ongoing development plans Paper Road will install a Dome Grown all-season growing facility next door so people will be able to have fresh out-of-season produce all year around giving diners the unigue "dome to dish experience"
