Kaikoura Marine Centre and Aquarium

Kaikoura Marine Centre and Aquarium

Building 2, New Wharf, Wakatu Quay, Kaikoura ,
The Kaikoura Marine Aquarium opened on the 15th of December, 2011, and since then we have seen almost 10,000 visitors! We have felt a huge amount of support from our visitors, and every donation has been much appreciated. We have an octopus, seahorses, sharks, crayfish, paua, perch, and loads of other things to come! We also have a brand new touch tank and heaps of informational posters about the Kaikoura marine environment. We came from small beginnings, having an outdoor location on the New Wharf with just a shipping container and a fenced off area. We are now inside a building (though we are not there permanently) which has been a great step up for us to accomodate more people in all types of weather! It is located at the end of the New Wharf. We are always trying to better ourselves, and though we now charge a $2 admission fee we still GLADLY accept larger donations! It is still one of, if not the most affordable attraction in Kaikoura. Our winter hours are Monday through Friday 11-3, and Saturday to Sunday 11-4. We will let you know when we change to our summer hours. We have not received any financial aid from the council, only from the generous donations of visitors and local community groups. If you have any other questions, please speak to either Megan Bosch or Brianna Bowman. Cheers!
