The Canterbury Aero Club provides flight training from the first introductory flight, through to solo and on to your private, or commercial pilots licence, including multi engine and instructor ratings. The choice is yours. Whether your aim is recreational or a professional career path, we will train you to the highest standard with safety always foremost. If your aim is a professional career in aviation, you will train with our wholly owned subsidiary company, the International Aviation Academy of New Zealand Ltd. Academy members are also full pilot members of the Club and enjoy full member activities and privileges. Our Club is based at Christchurch International Airport and is New Zealand's largest Aero Club. We also have an active branch at Rangiora Airfield. The facilities we provide are world class and include our own private airfield at West Melton for the exclusive use of members. Based at Christchurch International Airport, we are leaders in professional pilot training, with a proven record of having more of our graduates placed with airlines in New Zealand and throughout the world than any other New Zealand based flight training organisation. The Academy is equipped with world class facilities and equipment, including the latest Piper glass cockpit Warriors and Archers. Courses range from ab-initio through to Multi IFR training. All theory courses are provided, with outside examination and testing to New Zealand CAA requirements. Places in the Academy's courses are available for both New Zealand residents and students from overseas. HISTORY: Established in 1928 at Wigram airfield, the Canterbury Aero Club has a long and proud history of introducing people from all walks of life to sport and recreational flying.
